Doberman Pinscher FAQ, Information about Dobermans
|
How long have we had dobermans? We at Kings Ransom Dobermans have owned dobermans for over 20 years (since 1986).
What clubs do our dogs belong to? We have dogs registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club) and the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).
Do we show our dogs? Yes, We show our dogs in conformation, obedience, and agility.
What do we hope to achieve in our breeding program? To improve the breed... especially health issues. To continue to keep good temperament and keep the doberman in the correct size and bone standard. The doberman is a working dog, and we feel some of the dobermans today have no bone and are very small.
Dobermans that are sold as huge, super-sized, king-sized, giant dobermans, etc. are not correct in size, tend to have more health issues, and don't live a very long life!
A Doberman Pinscher should be 26" to 28" inches at the shoulder for a male, and 24" to 26" inches at the shoulder for a female. Dobermans should also have bone, substance and not look like a deer (with tiny legs and a pointy muzzle).
Do we do any health testing prior to breeding? Yes, We do health testing on all of our dogs for eye CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation), OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) hips, vWD (Von Willebrand's disease) thyroid, and we test annually for cardio at the U of M (University of Minnesota).
Are the puppies and dogs raised in the house or a kennel? All of our dogs are living in our home, and all our pups are raised in our home underfoot; They are born in our bedroom. |
